Exile Runeword

1x Vex Rune, 1x Ohm Rune, 1x Ist Rune, 1x Dol Rune and a 4-socket Paladin Shield

It is very popular for the Paladin shields and is the best shield for increasing physical defense. It grants your Paladin +2 Offensive auras, 30% Faster Block Rate, +220-260% enhanced Defense, and more. So if you want to know how to get it as fast as possible and if it fits your build, stick with this guide until the end. You can only use the runeword Exile on Paladin Shields. So it is obviously recommended for Paladins.

How do I socket the EXILE RUNEWORD?

Make sure you have all runes available - 1x Vex Rune, 1x Ohm Rune, 1x Ist Rune, 1x Dol Rune - then put them into the sockets of the base item, in the correct order pictured below. Pay extra attention to this. The rune word is 'VexOhmIstDol' for a reason, so if you don't socket it in the exact order, the result would not be 'Exile' (and instead you would end up with a bunch of runes socketed into the base item).
Take your desired base item, then socket the runes in this exact order:

Farming the Runes

  • Vex can drop in Act 1 on hell difficulty. It can be crafted with 2x ‘Gul’ + Ruby = ‘Vex’ in the Horadric Cube.
  • Search for Ohm in Act 2 on hell difficulty. You can also craft it with 2x ‘Vex’ + Emerald = ‘Ohm’ in the Cube.
  • Farm the Ist rune by killing the Countess on hell and in the Hell Forge on hell difficulty. It can also drop in Act 5, this time on nightmare. You can craft the rune in the Horadric Cube with 2x ‘Mal’ + Amethyst = ‘Ist’
  • The Dol rune can drop when killing the Countess on nightmare or higher and in the Hell Forge on nightmare. It has a chance to drop in Act 5 and can be crafted with 3x ‘Shael’ + Chipped Ruby = ‘Dol’

Which Base?

It must be a Paladin Shield. Because Exile is an expensive runeword, use an exceptional Paladin Shield found on hell difficulty.

Many also recommend using it on a shield with a nice resist bonus. Keep in mind that it needs exactly 4 Sockets, to create the runeword Exile.

Strengths

Exile has a very high defense bonus, that will make your Paladin a great tank. You also gain 2 offensive Auras, a faster block rate, target freeze, and more

Weaknesses

This runeword is a little expensive and lacks a resistance bonus.

How much is EXILE worth?

Runewords can have a huge difference in value. In order to find out the worth of the Exile Runeword, we need to add up the value of the single runes, as well as the base item used for socketing. Every roll will require these basic ingredients and will get you the Exile Runeword with random stats. This can be defined as the minimum value. The higher the stats of the roll, the higher the final value of the runeword. A "perfect roll" in a superior base tends to be the most rare and hence much more expensive than a random roll.

Can I buy the EXILE Runeword in D2R?

Yes, we can offer the already rolled Exile Runeword for you in different bases listed below.
Alternatively, you may want to get the unmade version, where we'll deliver the runes plus the base item to you. You can then complete the socketing yourself (offering a chance for a perfect roll, which would be of significantly higher value).
